A Full Tour of the Xquisite X5 Plus
& The Real Owner Experience with Gone with the Wynns!

What happens when renowned world-cruisers go on a mission to find their next boat home?
They bring a healthy dose of experience, an eye for detail, and a powerful BS detector!
That’s why we were so excited to welcome Jason and Nikki of Gone with the Wynns to our Freeport, Bahamas base. They came to see if the “utopian commune” and “cult-like following” surrounding our yachts was just clever marketing or if there was something more to the story.
In this incredible hour-long video, they conduct a full tour of the X5 Plus, from the dock to open water, and get an unfiltered, honest perspective by sitting down with one of our experienced owners, Dave, to talk about what it’s really like to own and cruise an Xquisite Catamaran.

The Xquisite Philosophy: Where Standard Means Ready-to-Cruise

A key part of the Xquisite experience is our commitment to a ready-to-cruise vessel from day one. Our philosophy, crafted by our founder and circumnavigator Tamas Hamor, is to anticipate a sailor’s every need. That means essential bluewater gear like a dishwasher, washing machine, generator, a complete toolkit, and even dive equipment aren’t found on a long options list – they are standard.
This commitment extends to our community. Our base in Freeport isn’t just a sales office; it’s a hub for service, training, and camaraderie, complete with owner apartments and a full-service restaurant a charter and more. As Dave explains in his conversation with Jason and Nikki, this community and direct support from the builder create a sense of trust and an ownership experience that is truly unique.

Cruising World Reviews the Xquisite SIXTY SOLAR SAIL

    Sixty Solar Sail

“SOME SAY THAT IT TAKES A VILLAGE TO ACCOMPLISH GREAT GOALS, BUT WHEN CROSSING OCEANS ABOARD THE SELF-RELIANT XQUISITE SIXTY SOLAR SAIL, YOU TAKE THE VILLAGE WITH YOU.”

    – by Herb McCormick, Cruising World
The recent review by Herb McCormick in Cruising World (June/July 2025) captures the innovative essence of Xquisite Yachts in a vividly painted journey aboard the Xquisite Sixty Solar Sail. McCormick, with his characteristic insightful and engaging style, portrays the vessel as a groundbreaking step into the future of cruising. He describes stepping aboard as “like entering some sort of otherworldly, waterborne version of The Matrix”, immediately setting the tone for a vessel that’s anything but ordinary.
Xquisite Sixty Solar Sail Tamas Hamor, CEO, Xquisite Yachts

    The Visionary Behind the Helm

At the heart of Xquisite Yachts is founder Tamas Hamor, whom McCormick playfully suggests “might just be the most interesting man in the marine industry.” Hamor’s simple declaration, “‘I like to solve problems,’ he told us, which seemed to sum him up well”, speaks volumes about the driving force behind the Sixty Solar Sail’s innovations. McCormick notes how, “In the Sixty, Hamor taken his explosive creativity to new levels in detail after detail.”

    The Xquisite Genesis:

    A Journey of Resilience

The Xquisite story began not in a boardroom but on the open ocean. Tamas and his wife Sara’s voyage across the Pacific, which included a dismasting near French Polynesia, fueled their determination. This experience, coupled with challenges in building their next boat, led them to establish Xquisite Yachts. Today, their cats are built in South Africa and Spain, with Xquisite now operating a full-service marina and residences in Freeport, Bahamas, dedicated to sales, charter, service, training, fine dining, and more.

    Aesthetics and Design:

    A “Nautical Starship Enterprise”

McCormick was clearly struck by the Sixty Solar Sail’s unique look. While the earlier multiaward winner X5 model reminded a Boat of the Year team judge of a “Nike basketball sneaker”, he asserts that with the Sixty, “any semblance of awkwardness” is gone. Instead, it “has the sleek, streamlined, contemporary appearance of a nautical Starship Enterprise.”
From its “powerful, purposeful mien” with reverse bows and integral sprit to the “low-slung, streamlined coachroof” and carbon-fiber “Park Avenue” boom, the yacht exudes advanced design. “To say there’s a lot going on is an understatement,” McCormick remarks on its myriad of well-thought-out features.

    Technical Innovation

    for Self-Reliant Cruising

The Sixty Solar Sail is engineered for autonomy and performance. Its substantial 7 kW solar array (comprising nearly 40 individual panels) feeds a 60 kWh lithium battery bank and a robust 48-volt electrical system, designed to “cover all house loads at anchor, including air conditioning, which negates the need for an onboard diesel generator.”
For propulsion, it features an optional hybrid setup: two 110 hp Yanmar diesel engines with sail drives, paired with 15 kW electric motors/generators. These can operate in regeneration mode under sail or propel the boat electrically before the diesels take over. The hull, a vacuum-infused foam-core laminate with vinylester resin, is meticulously hand-laid above the waterline.

    Superior Sailing, Uncompromised Comfort

Designed for ease of handling, often by a couple just as Tamas and Sara started, the Sixty Solar Sail doesn’t skimp on performance or luxury. McCormick recounts their test sail: “We started off with the big code sail on a beam reach and effortlessly glided along at just over 10 knots.” Even when switching down to the genoa, “we sheeted in everything and still clocked a respectable 7-plus knots.”
His conclusion? “On the Sixty, it was clear that making rapid miles will never be an issue.” The interior spaces are equally impressive, from the “grand owner’s hull, to port, has a king-size berth; a lounging area with a couch and desk,” to the well-appointed guest staterooms. Seamless integration between indoor and outdoor areas enhances the generous living space.

    The Verdict:

Traversing Oceans in an Innovative Marvel

Herb McCormick aptly concludes that while owners of Xquisite Yachts might not always be on epic voyages, “when they do, they will set sail in one of the most innovative, interesting catamarans traversing any ocean.” The Xquisite Sixty Solar Sail, through his lens, is a testament to visionary design and a commitment to the future of cruising.

Xquisite Yachts is excited to share that our SIXTY SOLAR SAIL will be featured in Issue #201 (June/July 2025) of Multihulls World Magazine. This in-depth test highlights the distinctive features of our flagship Sailing Cat, covering its advanced technology, remarkable sailing performance, unparalleled comfort, and pioneering solar energy capabilities. The feature follows recent recognition, including being named one of the “Top 10 Best Boats of 2025” and a prestigious nomination for “Multihull of the Year 2025“. We are genuinely honored to have the SIXTY SOLAR SAIL rigorously tested and showcased by the expert team at Multihulls World.

      Design Philosophy and Build Quality

The Xquisite SIXTY SOLAR SAIL represents a significant step forward in the large luxury cruising catamaran market. Born from over a decade of experience and incorporating extensive customer feedback alongside the lessons learned from the successful X5 and X5 Plus models, this 60-footer, designed by Bill Dixon, aims to blend cutting-edge technology, impressive performance, and exceptional comfort into an ideal long-range cruising platform.
Departing from the heavier profiles of its predecessors, the SIXTY SOLAR SAIL boasts a more dynamic and modern aesthetic, characterized by sleek lines, a single long hull porthole, and a refined rear arch supporting a significant solar array. The design prioritizes not just looks but also practicality and weight management, utilizing a longer platform to optimize comfort and load-carrying capacity. Built in South Africa, the yacht reflects a high standard of construction and finish, even on the first hull tested, with an emphasis on features genuinely conceived by experienced sailors for practical life aboard.

Spacious Living On Deck and Below

The catamaran offers truly impressive living space. The cockpit feels exceptionally large, comparable to that of a 70-footer, featuring an aft outdoor galley, clever seating arrangements (including a reversible bench and convertible table), immense storage lockers, and thoughtful details like an integrated shower. The main saloon follows an open-plan concept, seamlessly integrating the well-equipped port-side galley with a central island, a comfortable starboard saloon area, and a generously sized forward navigation station that doubles as an onboard office. Large windows and opening hatches ensure abundant natural light and ventilation.

      Sailing Performance and Innovative Handling

Despite its luxurious appointments, performance is a key aspect. The SIXTY SOLAR SAIL features a well-dimensioned rig with options including a self-tacking jib, genoa, Code 65, and a large gennaker. During the test in light winds (7-9 knots), the boat showed promising speeds, easily exceeding 9 knots with the Code 65 unfurled. Polars suggest potential speeds well into the mid-teens in stronger breezes. A standout feature is the focus on ease of handling, arguably enabling single-handed sailing thanks to extensive automation. Electric winches, electric furlers (including in-boom furling for the mainsail), and a comprehensive camera system allow critical operations and sail trim to be monitored and controlled directly from the protected helm station.

      Accommodation and Comfort

Tested in the three-cabin Owner’s Version, the SIXTY SOLAR SAIL provides luxurious accommodation. The entire port hull is dedicated to the owner’s suite, offering remarkable volume with a king-size bed, sofa, desk area, a true walk-in closet (a rarity in this class), and a spacious head with a separate XXL shower that cleverly provides access to the washer/dryer. The starboard hull houses a comfortable forward queen cabin and an aft VIP cabin, both with ample storage, panoramic views, and well-appointed en-suite or adjacent head facilities. Attention to detail, like numerous opening portholes for ventilation, enhances onboard comfort.

      The “Solar Sail” Energy Concept

Living up to its name, the catamaran incorporates a powerful renewable energy system. A substantial solar array (up to 7kW) feeds a large 60kW lithium-ion battery bank via a 10kW inverter, aiming for significant energy self-sufficiency. While the tested boat featured traditional Yanmar diesels, an optional hybrid propulsion system with hydrogeneration capabilities is available, potentially eliminating the need for a separate generator.

        • Single-Handed Sailing:
Advanced sail controls and a protected helm station enable effortless handling by a single person, ensuring both safety and convenience.
        • Eco-Friendly Design:
Equipped with 6 kW of solar panels and 60 kWh of lithium-ion batteries, the yacht promotes sustainable sailing without sacrificing comfort.

The spacious interior includes a well-appointed galley, expansive dining area, and customizable cabins, all designed with meticulous attention to detail.
        • Innovative Technology:
Features like the carbon mini-crane, protected sunbathing area, and comprehensive sail automation set new standards in yachting excellence.
        Customization Options:
While the three-cabin layout is popular, the design allows
for flexible configurations to suit individual preferences.
