Sixty Solar Sail in Multihulls World Magazine’s Test

High-Tech Luxury Meets
Offshore Capability

Test location: Chesapeake Bay, Annapolis – Maryland – USA
Conditions: East wind 7-9 knots, calm sea

Xquisite Yachts is excited to share that our SIXTY SOLAR SAIL will be featured in Issue #201 (June/July 2025) of Multihulls World Magazine. This in-depth test highlights the distinctive features of our flagship Sailing Cat, covering its advanced technology, remarkable sailing performance, unparalleled comfort, and pioneering solar energy capabilities. The feature follows recent recognition, including being named one of the “Top 10 Best Boats of 2025” and a prestigious nomination for “Multihull of the Year 2025“. We are genuinely honored to have the SIXTY SOLAR SAIL rigorously tested and showcased by the expert team at Multihulls World.

Design Philosophy and Build Quality

The Xquisite SIXTY SOLAR SAIL represents a significant step forward in the large luxury cruising catamaran market. Born from over a decade of experience and incorporating extensive customer feedback alongside the lessons learned from the successful X5 and X5 Plus models, this 60-footer, designed by Bill Dixon, aims to blend cutting-edge technology, impressive performance, and exceptional comfort into an ideal long-range cruising platform.
Departing from the heavier profiles of its predecessors, the SIXTY SOLAR SAIL boasts a more dynamic and modern aesthetic, characterized by sleek lines, a single long hull porthole, and a refined rear arch supporting a significant solar array. The design prioritizes not just looks but also practicality and weight management, utilizing a longer platform to optimize comfort and load-carrying capacity. Built in South Africa, the yacht reflects a high standard of construction and finish, even on the first hull tested, with an emphasis on features genuinely conceived by experienced sailors for practical life aboard.

Spacious Living On Deck and Below

The catamaran offers truly impressive living space. The cockpit feels exceptionally large, comparable to that of a 70-footer, featuring an aft outdoor galley, clever seating arrangements (including a reversible bench and convertible table), immense storage lockers, and thoughtful details like an integrated shower. The main saloon follows an open-plan concept, seamlessly integrating the well-equipped port-side galley with a central island, a comfortable starboard saloon area, and a generously sized forward navigation station that doubles as an onboard office. Large windows and opening hatches ensure abundant natural light and ventilation.

Sailing Performance and Innovative Handling

Despite its luxurious appointments, performance is a key aspect. The SIXTY SOLAR SAIL features a well-dimensioned rig with options including a self-tacking jib, genoa, Code 65, and a large gennaker. During the test in light winds (7-9 knots), the boat showed promising speeds, easily exceeding 9 knots with the Code 65 unfurled. Polars suggest potential speeds well into the mid-teens in stronger breezes. A standout feature is the focus on ease of handling, arguably enabling single-handed sailing thanks to extensive automation. Electric winches, electric furlers (including in-boom furling for the mainsail), and a comprehensive camera system allow critical operations and sail trim to be monitored and controlled directly from the protected helm station.

Accommodation and Comfort

Tested in the three-cabin Owner’s Version, the SIXTY SOLAR SAIL provides luxurious accommodation. The entire port hull is dedicated to the owner’s suite, offering remarkable volume with a king-size bed, sofa, desk area, a true walk-in closet (a rarity in this class), and a spacious head with a separate XXL shower that cleverly provides access to the washer/dryer. The starboard hull houses a comfortable forward queen cabin and an aft VIP cabin, both with ample storage, panoramic views, and well-appointed en-suite or adjacent head facilities. Attention to detail, like numerous opening portholes for ventilation, enhances onboard comfort.

The “Solar Sail” Energy Concept

Living up to its name, the catamaran incorporates a powerful renewable energy system. A substantial solar array (up to 7kW) feeds a large 60kW lithium-ion battery bank via a 10kW inverter, aiming for significant energy self-sufficiency. While the tested boat featured traditional Yanmar diesels, an optional hybrid propulsion system with hydrogeneration capabilities is available, potentially eliminating the need for a separate generator.

            Family Gathering:
            Annual Fun & Sun at
            Xquisite Catamaran Center

As it does every year, catamaran builder Xquisite Yachts organized its Owners’ Get-together.
This 2024 event was intended to be festive, with the aim of strengthening ties between the brand and its customers.
Multihulls World was among the guests invited to Grand Bahama…

Established in 2014, the Xquisite brand has, from the outset, sought to offer a genuine customer experience that goes far beyond the “traditional” commercial relationship.
One of the manifestations of this desire is the annual Xquisite Owners’ Get-together, an event that has now become a tradition and allows all those who wish to do so to gather for a weekend in a very relaxed atmosphere.
Unlike other Owners’ meetings, there’s really no official program here, apart from the big party on the Friday evening.
The idea is to give participants the opportunity to discover the Xquisite base and its surroundings in complete freedom. It’s also a good opportunity to discover several of the manufacturer’s models. In fact, this gathering of Owners is also open to customers who are considering acquiring a catamaran from the brand, or who are awaiting delivery.
            Xquisite Catamaran Center
            A Family-like Atmosphere
The convivial atmosphere makes it easy for chatting, and new acquaintances are made while older members can share their experiences and offer a few recommendations, often quite useful, to new buyers. Destinations, choice of sails, powertrain, and even the choice of the best cooktop to have on board (a story told by yours truly), no subject escapes conversation!
It was also a good time to talk about purchasing, insurance, repairs, and administrative formalities, as the entire team was in attendance along with all the brand’s partners.
Among the multihulls moored in the marina, there were of course many X5s, the shipyard’s best-seller, but also the brand-new SIXTY SOLAR SAIL, the first to be delivered on this side of the Atlantic.
During the day, guests were offered bicycles and kayaks, before enjoying a delicious cocktail around the pool. For my part, I even got the chance to sail, tacking a few times aboard the famous 30 Sportcat, designed for the brand’s sailing school, which I had tried out a year earlier in Annapolis.

            The Xquisite Catamaran Center,
            Homeport for Xquisite Owners
So it’s in the Bahamas that the brand has set up its Xquisite Catamaran Center. Indeed, as the manufacturer attaches great importance to customer service, the idea was to establish, almost from the brand’s launch, a base that would be the preferred homeport for Owners. Initially planned for Florida, the base was finally set up on the island of Grand Bahama. Tamas and David, the two partners, discovered a marina and hotel on the island, which had almost been abandoned. It soon became apparent that this was the ideal location for their project.

The site offers 10 rooms and 10 suites directly on the marina

In addition to these technical services, the Xquisite Catamaran Center also offers a concierge service – from car rental to refueling your multihull – to enable you to set sail without losing any time. This is also where the manufacturer has set up its offices to provide sales and administrative services. This goes far beyond sales, since Xquisite Owners can also take care of immigration formalities and even obtain a cruising or fishing permit.
The Xquisite Catamaran Center is first and foremost a marina, open to anyone, but with real advantages for the brand’s customers. It’s the ideal place to leave your catamaran in port for a few months, but it’s also the place to carry out maintenance, install accessories, or make any modifications you may require. If necessary, repairs can also be carried out here.
The site also houses the cruising school, which offers training to future Owners, thanks in particular to the 30 Sportcat. It’s also possible to go on charter, a great way to discover the brand’s catamarans.
The final part of the project is, of course, accommodation and catering, as the site offers 10 rooms and 10 suites directly on the marina. Here again, while Xquisite customers enjoy a number of benefits, the hotel will also be open to the public.

Not to be forgotten is “The Galley”, the resort’s restaurant, whose chef is a true magician. Since its opening, it has become one of the best restaurants on the island.

She braved a storm-laden Atlantic, arriving in excellent condition to a hero’s welcome just two days into the show. This extraordinary journey, combined with her standout design and features, captivated attendees and industry professionals alike.
