As it does every year, catamaran builder Xquisite Yachts organized its Owners’ Get-together.
This 2024 event was intended to be festive, with the aim of strengthening ties between the brand and its customers.
Multihulls World was among the guests invited to Grand Bahama…
Established in 2014, the Xquisite brand has, from the outset, sought to offer a genuine customer experience that goes far beyond the “traditional” commercial relationship.
One of the manifestations of this desire is the annual Xquisite Owners’ Get-together, an event that has now become a tradition and allows all those who wish to do so to gather for a weekend in a very relaxed atmosphere.
Unlike other Owners’ meetings, there’s really no official program here, apart from the big party on the Friday evening.
The idea is to give participants the opportunity to discover the Xquisite base and its surroundings in complete freedom. It’s also a good opportunity to discover several of the manufacturer’s models. In fact, this gathering of Owners is also open to customers who are considering acquiring a catamaran from the brand, or who are awaiting delivery.
A Family-like Atmosphere
The convivial atmosphere makes it easy for chatting, and new acquaintances are made while older members can share their experiences and offer a few recommendations, often quite useful, to new buyers. Destinations, choice of sails, powertrain, and even the choice of the best cooktop to have on board (a story told by yours truly), no subject escapes conversation!
It was also a good time to talk about purchasing, insurance, repairs, and administrative formalities, as the entire team was in attendance along with all the brand’s partners.
Among the multihulls moored in the marina, there were of course many X5s, the shipyard’s best-seller, but also the brand-new SIXTY SOLAR SAIL, the first to be delivered on this side of the Atlantic.
During the day, guests were offered bicycles and kayaks, before enjoying a delicious cocktail around the pool. For my part, I even got the chance to sail, tacking a few times aboard the famous 30 Sportcat, designed for the brand’s sailing school, which I had tried out a year earlier in Annapolis.

So it’s in the Bahamas that the brand has set up its Xquisite Catamaran Center. Indeed, as the manufacturer attaches great importance to customer service, the idea was to establish, almost from the brand’s launch, a base that would be the preferred homeport for Owners. Initially planned for Florida, the base was finally set up on the island of Grand Bahama. Tamas and David, the two partners, discovered a marina and hotel on the island, which had almost been abandoned. It soon became apparent that this was the ideal location for their project.

In addition to these technical services, the Xquisite Catamaran Center also offers a concierge service – from car rental to refueling your multihull – to enable you to set sail without losing any time. This is also where the manufacturer has set up its offices to provide sales and administrative services. This goes far beyond sales, since Xquisite Owners can also take care of immigration formalities and even obtain a cruising or fishing permit.
The Xquisite Catamaran Center is first and foremost a marina, open to anyone, but with real advantages for the brand’s customers. It’s the ideal place to leave your catamaran in port for a few months, but it’s also the place to carry out maintenance, install accessories, or make any modifications you may require. If necessary, repairs can also be carried out here.
The site also houses the cruising school, which offers training to future Owners, thanks in particular to the 30 Sportcat. It’s also possible to go on charter, a great way to discover the brand’s catamarans.
The final part of the project is, of course, accommodation and catering, as the site offers 10 rooms and 10 suites directly on the marina. Here again, while Xquisite customers enjoy a number of benefits, the hotel will also be open to the public.

Not to be forgotten is “The Galley”, the residences’ restaurant, whose chef is a true magician. Since its opening, it has become one of the best restaurants on the island.

The hull is of sandwich composite construction using Quadriaxial stitched fabrics, Divinicell composite PVC foam and Epoxy Vinyl Ester resin. This gives a stiff laminate with excellent strength and lightweight properties. The engine beds are of GRP and bonded to the hull. Sea-cocks under water line are Marelon and located in accessible positions. Hose connections to inboard side of stainless steel sea-cocks have two stainless steel hose clamps. For osmosis protection an ISO / NPG Gelcoat is used Standard Gelcoat colour is white. Rudders are solid GRP boasting a 55mm solid stainless steel shaft with hydraulic steering system. Access to the engine rooms is via 2 specially moulded large hatches in the aft cockpit floor. These hatches are lockable and feature gas struts Two x Yanmar Marine diesel engines Model 4JH80-TE (80HP at 3200RPM) with SD60-T sail drive units, both freshwater cooled, Stbd side coupled via the heat exchanger to a 60L Calorifier for hot water. Each engine is mounted on a specially moulded bed. Complete passive ventilation system Wet exhaust system including water trap, gooseneck and anti-siphon. Yanmar fixed 3 blade propeller Fuel capacity is 790L, 2 x tanks, 1 for each engine with shut off valve. Fuel transfer pump to transfer fuel from one tank to another Fuel filter/water separator in each engine room Fuel tanks vented to deck via a breather with flame arrestor. Both engines start from a dedicated engine starting battery mounted in a each engine room. Overhead LED lights in each engine compartment. 2 x 120amp standard alternators fitted by engine manufacturer Engine room soundproofed (new improved system) Fireboy automatic fire extinguishing system in each engine room 2 x Large capacity bilge pump with hi-water alarm in each engine room Emergency tiller arm supplied on dedicated brackets in stbd engine room. All freshwater hoses of re-enforced PVC tubing with “speed fit” connections. All hot water piping enclosed in a neoprene covering to maintain temperature over long periods of time 860 L rigid polyethylene water tanks in front lockers for easy removal and cleaning. Tank vents terminate on deck One water heater of 60lt with 110V resistor element. Complete with strainers, check valves and accumulator tank. Washer drier in forward area of stbd heads. Laundry area includes removable shelves at back of washer dryer. Water maker – Newport 400 NP-MK II-400S fully automatic with backwash/fresh water flush – 62Ltr + Connect Controller (new digital controller panel) Dishwasher – 45cm D/Washer – 10 place setting Connection for hose to hose down chain in windlass locker Fresh water filter for ice maker fitted in cupboard next to fridge Electrical
On board DC electrics are 12V with two wire-insulated return. Wires are sized to minimize voltage drop. All light current wiring is silicon tinned wiring which is flame proof and does not give off toxic vapours All light current conductors carrying an excess of 50 Amps are 50-70mm². All light current conductors programmed and powered by C-Zone digital switching Batteries – the ship’s auxiliary load consists of 6 x 1000 Ahr 2V Gel batteries A separate battery is supplied for engine starting. For good heavy current termination, copper tinned bus bars are used. A comprehensive DC main digital switching switch panel is located in the Nav Station. A High-Tech, Solar-Powered Catamaran Designed for Self-Reliant Cruising Couples
Advanced Solar Technology and Energy Systems
Packed with solar panels and lithium batteries, powered by a hybrid system that incorporates diesel engines and electric drive/power generators, and fitted out with a versatile and powerful sail plan, the Xquisite SIXTY SOLAR SAIL catamaran is intended to be a long-range cruiser that a self-reliant couple can handle on their own and liveaboard for extended periods.
At anchor, the boat’s 6 kilowatts worth of solar panels, 60-kilowatt lithium battery bank and 48-volt electrical system will cover house loads, including air conditioning, eliminating the need for an onboard generator. Under sail, its electric motors, mounted between twin Yanmar 110 hp diesel engines and their saildrives, can run in regeneration mode to replenish the batteries or, when powering, propel the boat for extended periods before the diesels take over to drive both the boat and high-output alternators.
Like earlier 54-foot models, the SIXTY SOLAR SAIL reflects the voyaging experience of the company’s founders, Tamas Hamor and Sara Hajdu, who circumnavigated together aboard multihulls before acquiring and finishing construction of a catamaran in South Africa that launched their new company, Xquisite Yachts, and made its American debut with the original Xquisite X5 at the Annapolis boat show in 2016.

Designed for Easy Access and Couple-Friendly Sailing
Having sailed as a shorthanded crew who maintained their boats themselves, the Xquisite team puts an emphasis on access to critical gear, such as shaft seals, pumps and steering components. Digital manuals, developed in-house, are extensive and cover parts, repairs and maintenance. And as importantly, an emphasis is put on sail handling that’s manageable for a couple, where one partner is often alone on watch.
At the deck-level helm station, protected by a windshield and overhead Bimini, all sail control lines run to a pair of electric winches mounted on each side of the wheel. The square-top, in-boom-furling, full-batten main can be set or reduced in size easily at the touch of a button, and the skipper can match headsail to conditions by choosing to fly a self-tacking jib, genoa or code sail, all set on electric furlers. A carbon-fiber mast and boom also contribute to smooth sailing by reducing weight aloft.
A Balance of Performance and Comfort
Designed by Bill Dixon of Dixon Yacht Design, the SIXTY SOLAR SAIL is a big boat. Seen at the dock, it towers above other similar-size catamarans because in order to present narrow hulls at the waterline for proper sailing performance – and still have interior room to allow for walk-around athwartships king-size berths aft – the cabin soles are elevated to take advantage of increased beam as the hulls flare approaching the bridge deck.
But to be clear, the Sixty Solar is still a cruising catamaran, loaded with creature comforts and plenty of room for belongings, provisions and toys.
Let’s start with the toys. A carbon-fiber crane on the transom takes the work out of launching and retrieving a tender, while an optional hydraulic swim platform between the hulls makes it a snap to lift up to three paddleboards and move them into a dedicated storage locker under a seat that spans the transom. The seat also incorporates a large grill and sink. Under the starboard cockpit stairs, there’s another compartment designed to hold scuba tanks and a compressor.
A Spacious and Versatile Interior Design
The cockpit features a table for dining alfresco and plenty of space to lounge in the shade. Just forward, a glass door slides open into the salon. Step inside, and tasteful and practical living spaces await. A large opening centerline electric hatch forward provides a lot of natural ventilation, as do four overhead hatches. A dining table in the forward starboard corner converts to a coffee table or can lower farther to create a large bed – a perfect spot to enjoy movies on the 50-inch smart television. The well-equipped galley includes an island counter, electric cooktop and oven, and a house-size fridge.
In the port hull, the owner’s suite is truly spacious. There’s the aforementioned king-size berth aft, a sitting area with a couch and desk amidships, loads of closet space, and a head and shower forward. Two guest cabins, both with athwartships bunks and en suite heads and showers, are to starboard. During the day, both hulls bathe in light from multiple ports.
Wide side decks, ample handholds, and solid stainless-steel life rails running bow to stern topsides are all additional signs that the SIXTY SOLAR SAIL is built to be a comfortable and safe passagemaker, one that will leave a little less of a carbon trail in its wake.
